Gulf District Schools Superintendent Jim Norton confirmed that Chance Gainer, an 18-year-old wide receiver and defensive back at Port St. Joe High School, died following the away game at Liberty County High School.
While researching and writing a story on Champion in 2017, I recall being struck standing in Perry Cemetery at Champion's gravesite by the simplicity of the stone but the tragic gone-far-too-soon message it conveyed: "Vaughn M. Champion — (March) 4, 1910 — Oct. 5, 1928"
The 33-year-old, who sits second in the all-time Bundesliga top goalscorer list with 309 goals in 379 appearances, admitted he is pondering his future.
Although LPS says the new misdemeanor ticket issued to Vieira is not related to the assault allegation, he was the first person named since the school district notified the LPS community about this investigation.
As he progressed through the youth ranks at the club, he was a player Arsene Wenger identified as a talent with the potential to go far.
Vieira has not been arrested by Littleton Police Department since the ticket is a misdemeanor charge, but he will be required to appear in Littleton Municipal Court on a date that was not yet scheduled on Tuesday.
